Dust, the Compressor Killer : Overheating of Air Compressors.
Rastgar first advice is always to check the oil cooler and clean it.
Because 9 out of 10 times, it's our good old friend DUST that is responsible for the overheating.
You see, air compressors are like gigantic vacuum cleaners. They need massive amounts of air for cooling. And all the dust in that air will get stuck in the oil cooler and after cooler.
You wouldn't believe the dusty, dirty, rotting air compressors we have seen during our services to compressor installations
What do you think a compressor looks like at a saw-mil... there's probably a whole tree in that compressor!
Or at a bakery? we could have feed our family for a year with all the flour we found in that air compressor!
But by far the worst compressor we have seen was at a potato chips factory (of a very well-known brand!). It was completely covered in potato 'dust' and smelled really, really bad, like rotting potatoes!
- The thing is, dust not only causes dirty coolers and overheating.
- It will eventually, always, enter into the air compressor.
- It contaminates the oil.
- It wears down the screw element.
- It clogs up the oil filter and the oil separator.
- And it ends up in your compressed air system and compressed air filters.
Dust is your number one air compressor killer!
REMEDIES
Always keep your compressor as clean as possible. And the best way to avoid dust is to install your compressor in a place where it can breathe clean, fresh air.
If necessary, install ducting so it can breathe fresh outside air (provided there's clean air outside).
Since many years, the 'all-in-one' packaged compressors are very popular, and they are promoted to be 'plug and play'.
Just put them where ever you want, where you need compressed air.
And we have seen a lot of compressors that are put just wherever possible…
In the warehouse, between bags of rice-flour and other dusty ingredients.
On top of the office space in the middle of a metal working factory.
Next to the loading bay of a cement factory.
You name it. The worst places possible!
Please, for the sake of your beautiful air compressor. Let it breath fresh, outside air. It will run longer, happier and more efficient.
In return, you will get lower maintenance costs, a longer compressor life and a lower energy bill!
All the best,
